Institute of Environment and Ecology is supported by advanced theories and technologies in soil science, botany, ecology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental ecotoxicology, takes the national policy and the regional ecological environment characteristic and the prominent ecological environment question as the research direction, explores the coupling relationship and internal mechanism of various ecological factors such as plants, soil, microorganisms and environmental factors. At present, the research directions of the Institute of Environmental Ecology are mainly located in four main research directions: invasive ecology and security, environmental and ecological restoration, ecological toxicology and environmental microorganisms.

The institute is made up of 23 full-time researchers, including 4 professors (including 2 foreign professors), 15 associate professors/associate researcher fellows (one associate research fellow from Hong Kong), 4 lecturers, 2 doctoral supervisors, and 18 master supervisors, all of whom have doctoral degrees. The research team of the institute has reasonable knowledge and age structure, strong innovation ability, fine work accumulation and rich practical experience, forming an innovation team with complete discipline knowledge and complementary advantages. The institute is now headed by Professor Daolin Du, doctoral supervisor and dean of School of the Environment and Safety Engineering, Jiangsu University. At present, the members of the Institute of Environment and Ecology have, after several years of efforts, obtained a relatively solid research foundation and academic strength in the fields of invasion of ecology and safety, environmental and ecological restoration, ecological toxicology, environmental microorganisms and other research work.

In the past five years, Institute of Environment and Ecology has undertaken more than 50 scientific research projects, including more than 10 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and about 40 projects at the provincial and ministerial level, with a total research fund of nearly 10 million yuan, which provides strong basic support for the institute's future development and expansion.
