Focusing on the environmental issues of high concern, such as environmental health and ecological safety, the Institute of Environmental Health and Ecological Security (IEHES) was established in April 2016, with the support of the School of Environmental and Safety Engineering, Jiangsu University.
The research works of IEHES focuses on the analysis of environmental pollutants, their toxicological effects, risk assessment, ecological restoration, and pollution control. The objective of the above research is to explore and solve existing and potential environmental problems, to conduct basic theoretical research for developing new methods and equipment, and to realize their applications. These works have the potential to promote our ability in environmental protection, pollution control, and sustainable development.
The IEHES contains four branches: i.e., management office, the Institute of Environment and Health, the Institute of Environmental Ecology, and the Institute of Pollution Control Theory and Technology. Currently, there are 23 full-time researchers in the IEHES, including three full professors, 11 associate researchers, where one doctoral supervisor and 16 master's supervisors are recognized. Among them, one expert of the “National Thousand Talents Program (Enterprise)”, three distinguished professors of Jiangsu University, and four faculties recognized and supported by Jiangsu Provincial Government (innovation and entrepreneurship program-Ph.D). In addition, there also are 19 part-time researchers in the IEHES, including 5 doctoral supervisors and 19 master supervisors.
To date, the IEHES was granted over 50 national projects, including one National Key International Cooperation Project, 11 National Natural Science Foundation of China, and more than 20 projects by different national ministries and local provincial government. Last three years, we have been awarded one PCT and 13 nation patents. Besides, our faculty and professionals have accomplished a series of scientific advancements that attracted worldwide attention as well as over 100 peer-reviewed scientific papers (more than 90 publications to be cited by SCI).
The IEHES actively conducted cooperation and communication with many domestic and foreign universities and research institutes, including the University of Colorado (United States), Mie University, Kyushu University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Research Center for Ecological Environment of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc. These works have built an important platform for improving and broadening the research horizon and academic level of scientific researchers.
